Joseph W. Devine, FACHE, is President & CEO of Kennedy Health. A 30-year Kennedy veteran, Mr. Devine is an officer of the Corporation of Kennedy Health and an Ex-Officio of the Kennedy Health Board of Directors and the Kennedy University Board of Trustees.
Under his leadership, Kennedy Health has been honored as one of the “Best Hospitals in the Country” by U.S. News & World Report (2014 - 2015), as well as being named a “Top Workplace” by Philly.com twice (2014 and 2015). Kennedy continues to grow and improve access to outstanding healthcare for the people of our region. In 2014 and 2015, Kennedy received awards from the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ network as a top-performing hospital for safe, high-quality, and effective patient care. Also in 2014 and 2015, Kennedy University Hospital’s three locations each received an “A” grade in the Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score for their ability to prevent errors, injuries and infections.
Mr. Devine himself has also been honored time and time again for his extraordinary leadership. In 2015, he was named one of the 50 most influential business men and women in South Jersey by South Jersey Biz Magazine in its first-ever “Power Players” list of outstanding regional business leaders. Also in 2015, Mr. Devine received the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent's Award for his contributions toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of ACHE goals.
In 2014, Mr. Devine was chosen by South Jersey Business People (SJBP) Magazine as one of the region’s “Executives of the Year” and was also honored by the Washington Township Chamber of Commerce with the Rick Zammer Business Hall of Fame Award. 2014 also saw Mr. Devine honored by the Diocese of Camden and the South Jersey Catholic Medical Association with the St. Luke’s Award for his service to healthcare in the region. That same year, Mr. Devine was also a recipient of the 39th annual Garden State Council Boy Scouts of America Gloucester County Distinguished Citizens Award.
An active, visible leader, Mr. Devine was also presented with the Kennedy Beacon Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the community and to Kennedy’s mission. His many other achievements include receiving the “Community Benefit Award” at a Dancing with the Gloucester County’s Stars event by raising $62,000 for Kennedy’s Ronald McDonald House Charities Pediatric Center and, in 2013, he received the Gloucester County NAACP’s Corporate Diversity Award in recognition of Kennedy’s commitment to diversity in the workplace.
Mr. Devine was named Gloucester County’s 2011 “Business Person of the Year” by the County Chamber of Commerce. That same year, he also was a recipient of the Philadelphia Pinnacle Award, presented annually to individuals who have reached the highest levels of career achievement and public service.
As Treasurer of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) Board of Trustees, Mr. Devine is also a member of the NJHA Executive Committee, the Chair’s Advisory Committee on Industry Direction, and the NJHA Executive Compensation Committee. In addition, as NJHA Treasurer, Mr. Devine serves as Chair of the NJHA Finance Committee and as a member of the Investment and Audit and Compliance Committees for a one-year term through 2016.
Additionally, Mr. Devine is a board member of the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Executive Club Chairman of the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, and is a Commissioner of the South Jersey Transportation Authority. He has been Chairperson for the South Jersey Heart Walk, Chairperson for the regional Arthritis Foundation Walk, and is active in many other charitable events. Mr. Devine was also Chairman of the Washington Township Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Development.
Mr. Devine holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Philadelphia’s St. Joseph’s University. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, its highest level of recognition.
Joe and his wife, Dina, are residents of Washington Township, NJ, since 1986. They have two married daughters.
