Cancer survivors and their family and friends are invited to take part in the Cancer Survivors Day festivities at the Kennedy Cancer Center in Sewell from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5th. More than 11 million cancer survivors worldwide will observe the 24th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day. The Kennedy Cancer Center is located at 900 Medical Center Drive in Sewell (across from Kennedy University Hospital, off of Egg Harbor Road).

Kennedy President & CEO Martin A. Bieber has been named Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bancroft. In this volunteer position, Mr. Bieber will oversee Bancroft’s 14-member Board, an all-volunteer group that governs the operation of Bancroft. His duties include setting the organization’s vision and strategic plan, overseeing all board committees, and working to support Bancroft’s management team in achieving the organization’s goals.

Kennedy University Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program now offers “scarless” (i.e. non-visible scar) single-port sleeve gastrectomy, a surgical weight-loss procedure. Alex Gandsas, MD, MBA, recently became the first Kennedy physician to perform this “scarless” single-incision weight-loss surgery at Kennedy Hospital-Stratford on a 42-year-old woman from Sewell, NJ. Instead of the usual six incisions required to perform bariatric laparoscopic surgery, this new procedure uses only one incision – through the patient’s naval (i.e. belly button) – significantly improving the cosmetic result.
