Kennedy Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week – August 1-7

Read more...According the World Health Organization, adequate breastfeeding support for mothers and families could save many young lives. Lactation Consultant Joanne Naughton, RN, CCE, IBCLC, has noticed the breastfeeding has been increasing within the community.

Donna Carter of West Deptford, planned to breastfeed her first child for the mother-child bonding and cost savings but when her daughter was born at 24 weeks, weighing 1 lb., 6 oz., it became even more critical that Baby Camille receive the nourishing and immunological benefits of breast milk.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Dr. Alan Z. Gartzman. In October, 1985 a memorial fund was established in his memory. His children, Steven Gartzman and Sheera Engrissei, are working to revamp the Gartzman Memorial Fund. The time is perfect to rekindle their efforts. To accomplish this – a gala fundraiser is planned. The gala will take place October 1, 2010 at Lucien’s Manor in Berlin. Tickets for the event are $85 per person – this price includes the cost of food and open bar.

Read more...Stratford, NJ – Kennedy University Hospital in Stratford, NJ, was rededicated at a special ceremony on June 2nd. The 183-bed acute care hospital, which originally opened in June 1965 as John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, recently underwent a $24-million façade project, giving it an entirely updated look. In addition to the rededication ceremony, a plaque was unveiled in the hospital’s lobby, honoring past and present long-term Kennedy board members.

Responding to the needs of more than 90,000 people in South Jersey who go hungry each week, residents from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-
School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-SOM) collected more than 2,030 pounds of non-perishable food items at five area locations in late May.

Kennedy University Hospital Nurse Manager Susan Cooke, RN, of Mullica Hill, NJ, was honored at a Gala in Philadelphia on May 12th as a finalist in the Nurse Excellence Awards sponsored by Nursing Spectrum magazine. Cooke, a Kennedy associate since November 2007, was one of five nurses in the management category singled out for this distinction and the only one from South Jersey. The Nurse Excellence Award recognizes the contributions nurses make to their patients and other nurses.
