Kennedy Shines at APIC Conference

Cindy Hou, DO, MBA, FACOI
– Chair, Infection Control Committee; George Scott, DO, DPM, FACOFP; and Marianne Kraemer, RN, MPA, Ed.M., CCRN – Chief Nursing Officer, Kennedy – ST, presented their abstract titled "The Impact of Physician and Nursing Instructors in the Hospital on Awareness of Hand Hygiene in Medical School Students" at the 43rd Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC, held June 11-13. As lead author, Dr. Hou won a Blue Ribbon Abstract Award for her work.

Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township, NJ, welcomed Glen Ellen, CA residents Mark and Bonnie Barnes, founders of the nonprofit DAISY Foundation™ on June 9. The Barnes’ were on hand for a presentation of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to Medical-Surgical Unit (MS2)  nurse Christine Levin, RN (center). Rob Levin, RN, Christine’s husband (second from left), is a Kennedy Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) nurse, and himself a past DAISY Award recipient. Chief Nurse Executive Helene Burns, MSN, RN, NEA-BC (far left) was instrumental in launching the DAISY Awards program at Kennedy Health, where up to six nurses each quarter receive the honor for having made a difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ family members.

Theodore N. Tsangaris, M.D. –
Surgical Director of Jefferson’s Breast Health Center, part of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson – has been named Medical Director of the Kennedy Comprehensive Breast Center in Washington Township, NJ. In this role, Dr. Tsangaris will oversee Kennedy’s breast care program, based within its Cancer Center, which provides a supportive environment for women to receive personalized treatment for an array of breast conditions, both benign and cancerous.
