Dr. Carman Ciervo Honored as an AOA Mentor of the Year

Carman A. Ciervo, D.O., FACOFP, a board-certified Family Practice physician on staff with Kennedy University Hospital, was honored on October 24th as a finalist in the American Osteopathic Association’s Mentor of the Year Recognition program.

Established in 2005, the program recognizes those who help shape the future of the osteopathic medical profession through their involvement with students and young physicians. Dr. Ciervo – a resident of Marlton, NJ -- was selected as one of five finalists nationally, among hundreds nominated for the award, and was honored during the Distinguished Mentor Reception at the AOA’s Annual Convention in San Francisco.

Dr. Ciervo, a member of the Board of Governors for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOPF), is Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Kennedy’s Cherry Hill and Stratford hospitals, and also serves as Kennedy’s Senior Medical Director for Clinical Integration. Dr. Ciervo is also Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he serves as an Associate Professor.

Dr. Ciervo earned his D.O. degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988, and completed his residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. Dr. Ciervo was inducted into the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Mentor Hall of Fame in 2006 and received the National ACOFP Excellence in State Society Leadership Award in 2008. As a member of ACOFP, Dr. Ciervo has served on the Industry Relations Committee, as Chair of the In-service Exam Committee, and Vice Chair of the Committee on Evaluation and Education. Past President for the New Jersey Chapter for ACOFP, Dr. Ciervo is also a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Medical Association.
