|Kennedy Board Member Daniel Ragone Receives NJHA’s Trustee Award|

Daniel J. Ragone, CPA – a longtime member of the Kennedy Health System Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of Kennedy University Hospital has been named a recipient of the New Jersey Hospital Association’s Healthcare System Trustee Award for 2013.
Mr. Ragone received the NJHA Hospital and Healthcare System Trustee of the Year Award at the organization’s 94th Annual Meeting, held in Princeton, on January 25th. The award is presented annually to an NJHA member healthcare system trustee who has contributed significantly to the health of the system -- and the community it serves --through exceptional leadership, guidance and service.
Mr. Ragone was recognized for his more than 35 years of service to Kennedy. His vision, leadership and boundless energy were integral to the growth and progress of the system, and he has played a key role on nearly every committee of both the hospital and system boards.
He has taken a leadership role in Kennedy’s growth and expansion as the healthcare organization has grown to include expanded services in neuroscience, cancer care and long-term and sub-acute care. Mr. Ragone also played a key role in the expansion of Kennedy from a single hospital based in Stratford, NJ (since 1965), to a multi-hospital system, with the purchase of the Cherry Hill and Washington Township hospitals in 1980.
A member of the Kennedy University Hospital Board of Trustees since 1978, and the Kennedy Health System Board of Directors since its inception in 1982, Mr. Ragone served as Chairman of the KHS Board of Directors from 1995 to 2000.
In 2009, Dr. Ragone was honored with the Kennedy Beacon Award, presented annually to extraordinary individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to healthcare in our community and to the success of the Kennedy Health System.
A native of Camden, NJ, Mr. Ragone graduated from LaSalle University in 1951 with a degree in accounting, forming his own public accounting firm in 1960. Over the years, Mr. Ragone’s community outreach has included serving on the Board of Directors of the Leukemia Society of America. He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of Italy – Cherry Hill Lodge, which honored him in 2000 as Camden County’s Outstanding Italian-American.
As a board member with the William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation, Mr. Ragone was responsible for obtaining more than $700,000 in grant money to assist in Kennedy’s health programs and continued growth. He also oversees the Daniel J. Ragone Family Foundation, a Haddonfield, NJ-based charitable organization that supports area non-profits.
The father of three grown sons, Mr. Ragone lives in Haddonfield with his wife, Lillian.
