|Joseph W. Devine Named President & CEO of Kennedy University Hospital|

Joseph W. Devine, FACHE, has been named President & CEO of Kennedy University Hospital, a three-hospital system in southern New Jersey. He will become President & Chief Executive Officer of the Kennedy Health System in late October 2013, when Martin A. Bieber retires after eight years of service to Kennedy, the last four spent leading the healthcare organization.
Devine, a 27-year veteran of Kennedy, had served as the organization’s Senior Vice President Administration since 2006. In that role, he provided leadership in operations, ambulatory services, subsidiary entities, and business growth and development, while overseeing governmental and community relations. Devine’s career at Kennedy since 1986 has included progressively responsible leadership roles, including that of Assistant Hospital Administrator at Kennedy – Washington Township, Associate Vice President of Corporate Services, and Vice President of Hospital Operations.
An integral part of Kennedy’s growth over the past three decades, Devine has overseen many initiatives, including the development of the Kennedy - Washington Township campus, the establishment of Kennedy Dialysis Services, the expansion of Home Health Care, Family Health Centers, and Behavioral Health Programs. A strong advocate for Kennedy’s Medical Staff and associates, Devine is a well-known leader in the South Jersey community, and has devoted substantial time and energy to many private and public organizations as well.
A native of Philadelphia and longtime resident of Washington Township, NJ, Devine is known for his ability to engage associates, physicians, and volunteers – along with community and government leaders -- to support Kennedy’s vision and mission. Currently, he serves as a Commissioner of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, is a member of the NJHA Policy Development Committee, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce. Devine is also a board member of the Adam Taliaferro Foundation, which supports athletes with spinal cord injuries. He was past Chairperson for the American Heart Associations South Jersey Heart Walk and has been active in many other regional non-profit organizations and boards throughout his career.
In 2011, Devine was named a winner of the Kennedy Beacon Award, which recognizes select individuals for their outstanding contributions to healthcare in the community and to the success of the Kennedy organization. That same year, he was also presented with Philadelphia Pinnacle Award in recognition of his high level career achievement and public service.
A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Devine holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He and his wife, Dina, are the parents of two daughters.
