Dr. Carman Ciervo

Carman A. Ciervo, D.O., FACOFP, Senior Vice President for Clinical & Population Health Services with the Kennedy Health System, has been named a 2012-2013 Physician Leadership Institute Mentor of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). Dr. Ciervo is a Distinguished Fellow of the ACOFP, a national organization made up of more than 27,000 osteopathic family physicians that promotes excellence in osteopathic family medicine through responsible advocacy, quality education and visionary leadership.

As chair of the ACOFP’s Leadership Institute Oversight Committee, Dr. Ciervo led a three-year initiative to partner with The Institute for Leadership in Medicine (ILM) to launch the ACOFP Physician Leadership Institute (PLI), which began in October 2012.

This program offers a valuable educational opportunity for ACOFP physician members to sharpen leadership skills, form strategic partnerships, and prepare for the future. The ACOFP Physician Leadership Institute offers participants the choice of three areas of concentration: Academics/Educational Leadership; Administration/Organizational Leadership; and Advocacy/Political Leadership. Dr. Ciervo serves as the ACOFP Mentor for the Administration Concentration.

The Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) offered a 12-month program year that began in October 2012 and ended on September 30, 2013, with the culmination of the first-ever ACOFP National Leadership Symposium, in which PLI Cohort members presented their ideas on “Improving the Future of Medicine” at the Fall 2013 AOA/ACOFP Annual Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition (OMED) Conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Following the ACOFP National Leadership Symposium, PLI Cohort members were awarded designation as an “ACOFP Certified Physician Leader” (CPL) in their area of concentration and Fellow status with the Institute for Leadership in Medicine. Dr. Ciervo was one of four individuals to receive an ACOFP PLI Mentor Award, and was also awarded Senior Fellow status with the Institute for Leadership in Medicine.

A 1988 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ciervo completed his residency in Family Medicine in 1991 through what was then the University of Medicine & Dentistry – School of Osteopathic Medicine, now the Rowan University-School of Osteopathic Medicine.

In his role at Kennedy, Dr. Ciervo oversees the innovative Kennedy Health Alliance, a quickly growing network of primary care physician practices that serve as a “gateway” to high quality, easily accessible healthcare services in southern New Jersey. Additionally, Dr. Ciervo is Kennedy’s primary physician liaison with the physician community at-large, dealing with issues of practice growth and development, as well as population health management.

Dr. Ciervo was inducted into the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Mentor Hall of Fame in 2006, and in 2010, he was honored as one of five national finalists in the AOA’s Mentor of the Year program, which recognizes those who help shape the future of the osteopathic medical profession through their involvement with students and young physicians. Dr. Ciervo resides in Marlton, NJ, with his wife, Dr. Loretta Mueller, and their daughter.
