Joseph W. Devine, FACHE, has assumed the role of President & CEO of the Kennedy Health System, a South Jersey-based integrated health delivery. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Devine had served as President & CEO of the three-hospital Kennedy University Hospital system since July 2013. He will retain that responsibility, in addition to taking over leadership of the health system, which has facilities in Camden and Gloucester counties.

Devine has held a series of progressively responsible leadership roles at Kennedy, including that of Senior Vice President for Administration from 2006 until earlier this year. Prior roles within the organization during his 27-year tenure have included Assistant Hospital Administrator at Kennedy – Washington Township, Associate Vice President of Corporate Services, and Vice President of Hospital Operations.

An integral part of Kennedy’s growth over the past three decades, Mr. Devine has played a key role in many initiatives, including the development of the Kennedy - Washington Township campus, the establishment of Kennedy Dialysis Services, the expansion of Home Health Care, Family Health Centers, and Behavioral Health Programs. A strong advocate for Kennedy’s Medical Staff and associates, Mr. Devine is a well-known leader in the South Jersey community, and has devoted substantial time and energy to many private and public organizations.

Currently, he serves as a Commissioner of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, and is a member of the NJHA Policy Development Committee. Mr. Devine also serves as Vice Chairman of the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce and is on the Board of the Adam Taliaferro Foundation, which supports athletes with spinal cord injuries. He has been active in many other regional non-profit organizations and boards throughout his career. 

In October 2013, Mr. Devine was presented with the Gloucester County NAACP’s Corporate Diversity Award, in recognition of Kennedy’s commitment to community involvement and to diversity in the workplace. In 2011, he was named a winner of the Kennedy Beacon Award, which recognizes select individuals for their outstanding contributions to healthcare in the community and to the success of the Kennedy organization. That same year, Mr. Devine – a native of Philadelphia -- was also presented with the Philadelphia Pinnacle Award in recognition of his high level career achievement and public service.            

A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mr. Devine holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He and his wife, Dina, are the parents of two daughters.
