Louise Baca Honored by Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce

Louise Baca, RN, MSN – Administrator of the Kennedy Health System Cancer Program – has been named the 2014 Business Person of the Year by the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce at its recent Community Service Awards. Ms. Baca, who joined Kennedy in 2010, was selected – along with winners in other categories – for her exceptional ability in making a difference in the community.

Known as an advocate and active leader for cancer patients in Gloucester County and throughout South Jersey, Ms. Baca’s service to the community and efforts to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors have made a valuable and lasting impact. In her role at Kennedy, she oversees the daily operations of both Kennedy’s Radiation Oncology Department and its Cancer Program

As a trained Oncology Nurse, Ms. Baca’s passion lies in ensuring that each patient is treated holistically – in body, mind and spirit. Under her leadership, the Kennedy Cancer Program launched the Center for Hope & Healing in 2011, which provides a haven where cancer patients and their family members can participate in non-treatment-related activities, or just relax and reflect in a comforting environment.

Ms. Baca also played a key role in the establishment of the Kennedy Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund (PAF), which has provided more than $20,000 in non-medical financial assistance for Kennedy cancer patients experiencing financial hardships. She has also spearheaded the annual Kennedy’s Cancer Survivors Day celebration at Washington Lake Park, an annual luncheon to honor breast cancer survivors and the Tree of Lights Remembrance, a special memorial tree-lighting event held in front of the Cancer Center at the start of the holiday season. In September 2014, Ms. Baca will lead Team KICK -- Kennedy Inspired Cancer Kickers – at the Bill Bottino Mud Run.

A graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree (BSN), Ms. Baca holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Drexel University in Nursing Leadership and Management. The mother of two, she resides with her husband, Gary, in Absecon, NJ.

In addition to Ms. Baca, Brian W. Jones – a board member of the Kennedy Health System Foundation – was honored as the Gloucester County Chamber’s 2014 Citizen of the Year.  Mr. Jones, a Senior Vice President and Chief Lending officer of Newfield National Bank, has served on the Kennedy Foundation Board since 2011.
