Joseph A. Maressa, Esq.

Joseph A. Maressa, Esq. is a more than 30-year member of the Kennedy University Hospital Board of Trustees, and has also served on the Kennedy Health Board of Directors – where he is currently serving as Secretary -- for more than 25 years.

Mr. Maressa has also chaired both boards: the health system board from 1990 to 1994, and the hospital board from 1995 to 2000. Additionally, Mr. Maressa currently serves as Chairman of the Kennedy Management Group Board of Trustees and is a member of the Board of Trustees for:  Kennedy Health Facilities, Inc., Kennedy Property Corporation, and STAT Medical Transport, Inc.

A Trustee of UMDNJ from 1991 to 1998, he was a member of the three-person Executive Committee throughout that time. A former New Jersey State Senator (1972-1982), Mr. Maressa was also a charter member of the Camden County College Board of Trustees and a former New Jersey State Trooper. Additionally, he served as Solicitor for numerous South Jersey municipalities and school districts.

During his years as a New Jersey State Senator, Mr. Maressa played a key role in the establishment of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He was also instrumental in Kennedy’s purchase of the Cherry Hill and Washington Township hospitals in 1980, helping the organization grow into a multi-hospital system.

Recipient of a 2010 Kennedy Beacon Award, Mr. Maressa also received New Jersey Hospital Association’s Healthcare System Trustee Award for 2009. In 2006, he received the UMDNJ-SOM Medal of Excellence, and in 2000, Mr. Maressa was named Outstanding Trustee of the Year by the American Osteopathic Healthcare Association.

Mr. Maressa earned his law degree from Rutgers University in 1952. He resides in Atco, NJ.
