Helene Burns, MSN, RN, is Chief Nurse Executive and Vice President of Clinical Services at Kennedy Health, a role she’s held since 2013. Ms. Burns oversees the operational and clinical aspects of nursing care provided at Kennedy’s three acute care hospitals, with responsibility over its more than 1,100 Registered Nurses (RNs). She is also pursing the Magnet journey with her organization.
A member of the Kennedy leadership team since 2008, Ms. Burns has been instrumental in the development and success of many programs and services. Under her leadership, Kennedy University Hospital in Stratford – which she served as Assistant Vice President of Clinical Services for several years -- received Level 1 accreditation for its bariatric (weight-loss) surgery program, opened a specialized unit for the care of elderly patients, and received the Gold Plus™ Award for its stroke program from the American Heart Association, among other achievements.
Additionally, through her system-wide oversight, all three Kennedy campuses have successfully reached NICHE® status, which recognizes the healthcare organization's evidence-based, interdisciplinary approach to promote better outcomes and improved care for older adults.
In 2012, Ms. Burns was named one of the New Jersey Institute for Nursing’s “Divas and Dons” for her extraordinary impact on the profession and the community. With more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, her management experience includes seven years as Director of Nursing at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pa., prior to joining Kennedy.
Ms. Burns earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (1981) and her Master of Science in Nursing degree (1994) from Widener University in Chester, PA.
A board-certified Nurse Executive, Advanced through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Ms. Burns resides in Berlin, NJ, with her husband, Frank.
