To make access to Kennedy's Behavioral Health Services as quick and convenient as possible, Kennedy has established a special Behavioral Health Access Center.

Patients are assessed by master's level clinicians and Registered Nurses who specialize in substance abuse and mental health disorders. Once evaluated, patients are placed in the appropriate level of care.

The Access Center provides services to people of all ages, ranging from children in kindergarten to adolescents and adults.

Kennedy offers a 24-hour crisis service, managed by Twin Oaks Community Services. The center is located within the emergency department at our Cherry Hill Campus.

The service is designed for patients who are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and need close observation in a secure setting. The Center is staffed by crisis workers certified by the State of New Jersey, psychiatrists and registered nurses.  Patients will receive a mental health evaluation, clinical stabilization services, and will be referred to a service that can provide the most appropriate treatment.

Inpatient Mental Health

The West Pavilion at Kennedy - Cherry Hill, is a 35-bed inpatient psychiatric unit that provides two acute levels of care: the Short Term Care Facility and the Open-Side. Each level offers patients individually tailored treatment plans. The treatment team includes board certified psychiatrists, residents, interns, nurse clinical specialists, RNs, dance, movement and art therapists, social workers and mental health technicians.

Outpatient Mental Health

• Intensive Outpatient - an outpatient program is offered days and evenings and runs for approximately three-and-a-half-hours. Patients attend a combination of psycho-educational and psychodynamic groups.
• Partial Hospitalization Program - is offered during the day and runs concurrently with the intensive outpatient mental health program.

Dual Diagnosis

• Intensive Outpatient - designed to specifically address each patient's co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues. Patients are taught tools for relapse prevention and recovery from addiction as they progress in their recovery.
• Partial Hospitalization - provides additional support to the dual diagnosed patient who requires increased supervision and support.

Our adult outpatient psychiatric services are conveniently located in Cherry Hill and Washington Township, New Jersey. To meet the needs of our patients, we provide both daytime and evening hours. When available, transportation may be provided.

Our child and adolescent services provide a full continuum of care. Patients can be assessed at Kennedy Behavioral Health's ACCESS Center in Cherry Hill or through one of the screening centers in Camden, Burlington or Gloucester counties. At Kennedy, we work hard with parents, community mental health providers and local school districts to offer safe, respectful and nurturing environments that provide our young patients the ability to develop the coping skills needed to allow for safe returns to their home and school. We have outpatient services located in Washington Township and Cherry Hill. Transportation may be provided when available.

Inpatient Psychiatric Services

CAPU is a 14-bed acute inpatient unit. It offers 24-hour nursing supervision as well as psychiatric evaluation, medication evaluation, group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, psycho-educational groups, in-house school services and medication monitoring. Patients requiring additional support are offered linkage with a variety of community services based on individual need.

Outpatient Partial Hospitalization Program

This program helps children and adolescents faced with the challenges of mental health and substance abuse issues as they continue living in their home environments. Patients are required to continue to meet their baseline educational requirements as their presenting issues are addressed. Our experienced outpatient treatment team fosters an environment that promotes safe and effective alternative coping skills to prepare the child or adolescent to return to his or her community and school. Patients are also offered individual therapy and medication monitoring.

Intensive Outpatient Program & After School Program

In addition to the partial hospital program, Kennedy Behavioral Health provides an intensive outpatient program that operates concurrently with the partial hospitalization program Monday thru Friday during the day. Additionally, we offer an after-school intensive outpatient program in the evening that continues to support the patient as he or she returns to school. This program offers psycho-educational and therapeutic groups.

The Behavioral Health Services at Kennedy have partnered with the School's Department of Psychiatry since 1983 to provide the most comprehensive continuum of mental health and chemical dependence services available in southern New Jersey.

Our program-based treatment teams are led by board certified psychiatrists who collaborate with a diverse array of licensed and certified professional associates, many of whom possess advance degrees in their areas of specialty to develop and implement patient-focused therapeutic plans.
