Fast Facts on Wound Care
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a medical treatment that enhances the body's natural healing and strengthens the immune system. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an effective treatment option for many chronic wounds.

Often people do not think about a center for wound healing when dealing with “closed” wounds.   Sometimes there is underlying skin damage with or without an open sore.  Such is the case in Radiation Tissue Damage.   When a patient receives radiation therapy for cancer or another disease, the radiation can often ‘burn’ deep tissues inside the body causing pain during and following the process.  Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can be very effective in treating this deep tissue injury and is covered by most insurances.

Diabetics at Risk for Developing Chronic Wounds
  • 5 million people who suffer from chronic wounds have diabetic ulcers?
  • 15% of all diabetics will develop chronic wounds?
  • More than 60% of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations occur in people with diabetes?
  • Patients with diabetes have a 15-fold increase in the risk of amputation?
  • In 2006, about 65,700 nontraumatic lower-limb amputations were performed in people with diabetes?
  • One-half of all diabetics have or will develop neuropathy, which can lead to injuries, sores, chronic infections, gangrene or amputations.*

Studies have shown that wound care treatment facilities have reduced amputation rates significantly and reduced length of hospital stays by 24 percent. The American Diabetes Association estimates that diabetes-related amputation could be reduced by 50 percent if patients were routinely tested for neuropathy, educated to prevent injury or complications, and provided related ancillary services.
