Working with Kennedy's departments of Radiology, Pathology and Surgery, The Digestive Health Center at Kennedy is uses innovative and specialized techniques for diagnosing complex disorders of the digestive tract, including the pancreas, bile ducts and liver.

Advanced Diagnostic Capabilities
Our doctors use the technologically superior Olympus EVIS EXERA II video system, with high-definition and narrow-band imaging, for gastroscopies and colonoscopies. The High-Definition signal from the endoscope platform's video processor produces an impressive 1080 lines of resolution -- more than twice the number of scan lines used by conventional systems, offering doctors breathtaking images with a high level of detail and color for diagnostic purposes.

Additionally, Kennedy's Center for Digestive Health also offers:

  • Endoscopic Ultrasound - (EUS), is an advanced diagnostic tool used for diagnosis and staging of digestive disorders. For cancers, evaluation of chronic pancreatitis, evaluation of bile duct abnormalities and evaluation of nodules in the intestinal wall. Physicians use the EUS to examine the lining and walls of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract and nearby organs such as the pancreas, liver and gallbladder.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography - (ERCP) is used primarily to diagnose and treat conditions of the bile ducts -- including gallstones, scarring, leaks (from trauma or surgery) and cancer -- through the combined use of x-rays and endoscopy. ERCP is a technique that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems. Through the endoscope, the physician can see the inside of the stomach and duodenum, and inject dyes into the ducts in the biliary tree and pancreas so they can be seen on x-rays.
  • Small Bowell Enteroscopy, small bowel enteroscopy allows a physician to navigate the entire small bowel from either an oral or rectal approach, enabling them to perform both diagnostic and therapeutic techniques within the small bowel without the need of an open surgical procedure.
