Jefferson Health New Jersey Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Ronald McDonald Family Room at WT Hospital and Longtime Volunteer Catherine Durante
Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, home to the only Ronald McDonald Family Room located within an Emergency Department waiting area, celebrated the 15th anniversary of the respite space — for families with children needing medical treatment — on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey (RMHSNJ) volunteers uplift and comfort families with child-friendly video games and television, as well as complimentary snacks, beverages, and children’s books. There are currently 250 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in the world and 138 in the U.S.; 11 are in South Jersey, which are managed by RMHSNJ, based in Camden.
Catherine Durante has volunteered at the WT Family Room since its April 1, 2004, opening; she was honored at the event before her family — who has been a strong RMHSNJ supporter and was instrumental in the Family Room’s founding.
Nearly 9,500 pediatric patients were seen in the Jefferson Washington Township Emergency Department in 2018.
